WHY NOT JOIN A LIFE GROUP?

There are several Life Groups running in our church, and we are looking for more people to join and expand our existing groups.

WHAT IS A LIFE GROUP? IS IT FOR ME?

Life Groups are about helping each other to live LIFE God’s way – working out what it means to be disciples of Jesus today, and connecting our faith to the whole of life. It’s a great way to grow in your faith and to develop new friendships with people from a wide range of ages, backgrounds, and Christian experience.

Our Life Groups meet weekly, each with about 6-10 members. Although each group looks slightly different, the meetings are always based on the “4Ws”:

  • Welcome      Building relationships between group members
  • Worship        Keeping our attention focussed on God
  • Word             Listening to God speak to us through the Bible
  • Witness         Allowing God to work through us in the way we live
  •

We have both daytime and evening groups. Some groups meet mainly or completely online, others in homes or in the Oak Room. Something for everyone!

We would love more people to be involved in Life Groups, so if you would like to know more please speak to Janet Shackleton or Revd Ben, or email church office.

Bart’s Butterfliesare meeting at Victory Hall, Lower Penn on Thursday at 1.45pm. There is plenty of parking. All are welcome.

Shoe Box Appeal: St. Bart’s is supporting ‘Operation Christmas Child’ again this year – sending gifts abroad to children who would otherwise receive nothing for Christmas.  If you wish to create a ‘shoe box’, please bring it to the Parish Office bySunday 21st November.

New Church Heating System (Hurray!)

Work on our new heating system in St Bart’s has started!!!

Obviously there is going to be some disruption. Please can we all be patient and understanding in the knowledge that it is going to be great when finished. It will only be for a couple of months and it will be nice and warm for Christmas!

Inevitably, this project is going to be expensive and will be in the region of £90,000.

If you would like to make a donation, towards the heating fund, please put it in an envelope clearly marked “Heating Fund” (and don’t forget to Gift Aid it).

Alternatively, you can pay by bank transfer. If you would like the bank account details, please contact the Parish Office by email, look at a standing order form, or put it in a yellow envelope clearly marked “Heating Fund”.

PAINTING in PENN

DO YOU WISH YOU COULD PAINT?

On Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th January 2022, Painting In Penn will be opening up the classes for the intake of new amateur artists, from absolute beginner to the more advanced, who would like to enjoy the experience of water colour painting.

The course is modularised so that all the students can work at their own pace, without any pressure, through a range of activities, including paintings from holiday, photographs, their own drawings, landscapes, still life, portraits, flower or abstract works using water colour, oil, acrylic, pastels, or gouache media.

Additional support and guidance will be gained through constructive teacher assessment and personal self-evaluation, as well as the use of a comprehensive library of books, dvd’s and monthly workshops led by professional artists

Visit our website www.paintinginpenn.co.uk for an insight to our work.

All Saints Day - we give thanks as we remember all the faithful people who have given their lives to Christ over the years and served him in many different lands, often in great hardship and suffering.

2.

We pray for those meeting at the Cop26 conference in Glasgow. May leaders work together for the benefit of all countries. We give thanks for all who belong to Painting in Penn and Ron who organises it.

3.

We pray for all who come to the mid-week Communion and Alison who leads it. We also pray for all who follow the Living Faith course.

4.

We give thanks for all who serve in our armed forces and their families. We especially pray for those who have been wounded, and those who suffer from PTSD, that they will get the help and support that they need.

5.

Bonfire night - as many people enjoy fireworks, we pray for safety at all bonfire parties. We remember the many animals who are terrified at this time of year.

6.

We give thanks and pray for our Wardens, Anne and Cath. Guide them in all that they do for St Bart’s. We also pray for Sue in the office and Dean our Treasurer that they will have wisdom in all they do.

7.

SUNDAY    We pray for all who worship at St Anne’s and Michael Hibbs who leads their worship. We pray for the families who need support in the on-going challenges of Covid restrictions.

8.

We give thanks for our Life Groups. We pray for those who are meeting and for other groups who are not meeting yet. Help us all to see how we can support each other.

9.

Canada - we are asked to pray for Bishop Rob Hardwick, as he retires, Bishop Chris Harper, Saskatoon, and Helen Kennedy, soon to be Bishop of Qu’Appelle.  Encourage them all in their service for you.

10.

We give thanks for all who belong to the Mothers’ Union as they meet today. Encourage them in their family life, strengthen those who care for grandchildren. Be with those who are lonely.

11.

We give thanks for all who come to Butterflies today, and pray for your blessing on all who come. We also pray for all families everywhere.

12.

Melissa asks for prayers of protection over a training she and her team (both Arab and foreigners) are planning for church leaders in the Middle East this month. Pray the Holy Spirit anoints each speaker and everyone is encouraged.

13.

We give thanks for Ben, our vicar and all our clergy, and lay readers. We are privileged to have such a team of ordained and lay staff to minister in all our services. We give thanks for all who join us on-line.

14.

REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY    As we remember those who have lost their lives in recent wars, we pray for those who mourn the loss of loved ones, and those whose lives have been dramatically changed by injury. We give thanks for the work of the British Legion.

15.

We pray today for Joy, Sally and Jo who work so hard to make the Coffee Morning a success. We give thanks for all who have found friends there.

18.

We pray for people in our local prisons. Help them to turn their lives around and prepare them for the challenges they will face when they are released. Help them to find work and find the support they need. We pray for victims of crime that they will be able to get the support they need and find peace and justice.
