The Well

To all of you who generously support The Well - Thank you. Just to show how appreciative our recipients are, these messages were received last week - 'thank you for the delivery, sorry I had an interview today so I couldn't collect it off you in person. I really appreciate this, it will go a very long way and really, really helps me. Thank you to the food bank I think it's so generous of everyone involved. It really does help me’. Also received from one of the volunteers, 'I had a lovely lady this morning, she is a full time carer for her elderly mother who has dementia...she burst into tears and was so grateful'. Every contribution is valued and used, our supplies are running out, but whatever you can donate will help - 'it is in giving we receive.' Kay Stokes

Mothers’ Union Holy Communion

will be held in Church on Wednesday 9th August at 10.30am. Everyone is welcome.

Earlier this year St Bart’s were successful in achieving the bronze level Eco Church Award. This is awarded by the A Rocha UK foundation, who seek to demonstrate that the gospel is good news for God's earth. The award is achieved for meeting commitments to environmental standards across five different areas.

WORSHIP AND TEACHING, reflected in praying for environmental issues and the junior church re-using plastic bottles to make musical instruments.

BUILDINGS, reflected by installing a new efficient gas boiler and the use of LED light bulbs.

LAND, reflected in the re-wilding of part of the churchyard to promote native wildflowers and encouraging birds, bees and butterflies and promoting the use of church land for leisure and prayer.

COMMUNITY AND GLOBAL ENGAGEMENT, reflecting in meeting local councillors about the St Bart's conservation area, and supporting charities which promote sustainable development and the environment.

LIFESTYLE, reflected in having communal Christmas cards, and ensuring that churches funds are ethically invested.

The challenge now is to further develop our commitment to environment  standards in line with God's teaching.

Opportunities to pray with others

Daily Morning Prayer This regular short service (about 20 mins) of prayers and bible readings takes place in the Lady Chapel at 9am every day except Sunday. On Wednesday it is a communion service.  A lovely way to start the day by focusing on God in the company of others.

Friday Prayers This group meets fortnightly in the Lady Chapel 4-5pm on Fridays, and will start again on 8th September, after the summer break. It is an opportunity for quiet prayer, for the requests on the prayer board, and other issues known to us, to support the ongoing ministry of the church and the needs of our community. You will not be expected to pray out loud (unless you want to). Each session is gently guided by a group member. Drop in when you are able.

WhatsApp Prayer Group The group members share prayer requests which they are aware of, via their mobile phones, and pray in their own time. The group enables immediate prayer in emergencies, and ongoing support for situations of concern. It allows people who may not find it easy to meet in person, to share in the prayer ministry of the church.

If you would like to know more about any of these, please speak to Janet Shackleton or one of the clergy. We would love you to join us.
